- On or about 14 Jan 1996 06:07:32 GMT, Paul Dossett (astroboy@netspace.net.au) did proclaim:
-
- ( There was no EHB Denise, what are you talking about? All Amigas could do
- ( EHB.. maybe you mean the ECS Denise, which was a simple hack. Certainly
- ( not a complete new desing such as you're referring to.
-
- I'm not sure of the actual nomenclature, but I can assure you that the
- varying generations of 1000s did, indeed, have different denises'.
- Earlier 1000s didn't have "halfbright". THe latter ones did. I
- was always under the impression that ECS came about AFTER the 1k. That
- is, ECS chips were for 500, 2k etc. I.e. 1 MB agnus, new denise (to
- allow productivity etc).
-
- ( >So you are telling me the only difference between the A1200+ and A1200
- ( >will be the addition of 2 SIMM sockets and a new processor? There is a
- ( >chance of just that but I think we should be expecting and will get more.
-
- Personally, I don't expect jack-shit. They just inherited a bankrupt
- company, and have to get their feet wet with (and I use this word
- lightly) "established" equipment (1.2k, 4k) before they can devote
- umpteen ba-jillion dollars into research and design. But, that's just
- my opinion. I'd say, the best one can hope for in the near future
- is an 030 as the least common denominator (they are cheap, and are at
- the stage where the 020 was a few years back). Another possibility is
- the ability to purchase a 1200 with an onboard FPU, since the area
- is already mapped (socket-type) out. Check your mother board. You'll
- see where it was/is to go. Simm sockets... perhaps, but I doubt that.
- They'd need a new, larger case. Aside from that, I doubt it would be
- called a "1200". Much easier to rename it, in case there are
- compatibility issues etc. I.e. Manufactures that create goods for
- existing 1200s would have to change there boxes/docs etc. As
- the stuff might not be 100% compatible. ANd, well, I doubt AT would
- want to inconvenience (read: scare off) any more amiga supporters.
-
- Geez, I can't believe I even posted on this. I don't usually post
- on speculations. The point is moot. It's always a good chuckle
- to dig out old amga mags and read what the authors claimed the
- amiga would be fitted with, especially the ones that claimed a
- "sure thing".
-
- ( I think that's exactly what we'll get. What we need is an 040.
- Such a thing would make an already expensive machine, even more
- expensive.
